Just before the Cricket World Cup, England’s captain Ben Stokes sent a warning with his amazing performance in a one-day international match. With an outstanding performance, Stokes broke Richard Hadlee’s record for the most wickets in a single innings for New Zealand by scoring 182 runs in an ODI match against them at The Oval.
With his 182 runs in a One Day International encounter on Wednesday, Ben Stokes established a new record for England. Ahead of the World Cup, he sent a message to the rivals with his outstanding performance at The Oval, which helped England defeat New Zealand. His form in India was demonstrated in this performance.

Stokes’ performance was complimented by Buttler, who said, “He played some great shots, but that was an amazing innings.” Boult kept New Zealand in the game with five wickets for 51 runs in nine and a half overs, but Stokes’ exit allowed England to reach a mammoth 348-5.
But England had plenty of runs already on the board. The most significant damage was done to New Zealand by Chris Woakes (3-31) since their best batsman Ross Taylor struggled and fell at 37-4 while their regular skipper Kane Williamson was out injured.
On October 5, England faced up against New Zealand in Ahmedabad to begin the defence of their 50-over world championship, a team they had famously defeated in the thrilling 2019 World Cup final at Lord’s.
The New Zealand coach, Gary Stead, stated, “I have no problems with Ben Stokes.” He should start running now rather than on October 5.
Trent Boult’s return to the ODI system after declining a key contract to compete in Australia’s lucrative Big Bash League gave Stead some solace and allowed him to strengthen New Zealand’s one-day lineup.
Said Stead: Trent’s return is wonderful.
He has shown in the previous two games that he is a player of the highest calibre and is capable of leading England to victory. It’s too bad we didn’t take advantage of those starts.
Prior to that, Boult, 34, had taken a diving catch at deep backward square leg to dismiss Bairstow, which prompted Root to play the ball inside-out to his stumps.
With 124 runs off 124 balls, including 15 fours and nine sixes, Stokes broke England’s previous record of 180 runs achieved by Jason Roy in Melbourne against Australia in 2018.

Stokes’ familiar presence for England, whose previous best ODI score was 102 runs, raised some concerns. He had been hindered by a nagging knee issue, but he intends to handle it better during the World Cup.
