Canada India Excitement: An increase in tensions with India prompts Canada to recall some diplomats

Canada India Excitement: The Canadian government has chosen to recall some diplomats from India due to growing tensions. An official from Canada’s Department of International Relations said that this decision was confirmed on Wednesday night.

The spokesperson for Canada’s international relations department, Jean-Pierre Godbout, reportedly stated in an email that “we are taking steps to ensure the safety of our diplomats” in light of the rising tensions. The National Post reported this information. On social media, some of our diplomats have been threatened.

The Department of International Relations spokeswoman added that Canadian ambassadors and local personnel who are managing trade and other activities in various locations across India are temporarily adjusting their presence as a precaution.

The death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent member of the Sikh community in Canada, earlier this week was blamed on the Indian intelligence service, according to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Since then, there has been an increase in tensions between India and Canada, and both nations have taken diplomatic measures in response.

On June 18, in British Columbia, Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot and killed after leaving a Sikh temple. He was well-known for his role in the Khalistan movement, which favoured the creation of a separate Sikh state in the Punjab region of India. Since the beginning of this movement, India has constantly resisted it.

As Jean-Pierre Godbout noted, Canada’s diplomatic posts in India will continue to operate notwithstanding the recall of some ambassadors. The choice of which diplomats will be recalled is now being thought upon. Godbout reaffirmed that “Canada will take all necessary measures to protect the health and safety of its workers and will continue its operations in India.”

In addition to consulates in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Mumbai, Canada has a high commission in New Delhi, the capital of India. Jean-Pierre Godbout expressed the expectation that the Canadian government will make an effort to guarantee the security of Canadian diplomats stationed in New Delhi, the capital of India.
